Local Area

Nestled in the beautiful countryside of South Shropshire, the local area around The Green Caravan Park offers quiet country lanes, rolling hills and spectacular scenery that make it perfect for walking and exploring. Guests can enjoy the rich wildlife of the Shropshire Hills, with plenty of opportunities to spot an abundance of birdlife along the way.

There are several excellent country pubs nearby serving traditional ales and delicious home-cooked food. The Inn on the Green, a welcoming family pub, is easily accessible directly from the caravan park and is particularly renowned for its Sunday lunch (booking advisable). Just up the hill you’ll find The Crown Inn, a dog-friendly pub also serving Sunday lunch, while The Bridges, a charming riverside pub, is just 3km away.

The surrounding area offers a wide variety of attractions and places to visit. The rugged beauty of the Stiperstones, the sweeping views of the Long Mynd, and the historic Snailbeach Lead Mine are all well worth exploring. The charming market town of Bishop’s Castle, along with Church Stretton and Carding Mill Valley, are also nearby and make wonderful day trips.

Within easy reach are several historic castles including Stokesay, Powis, Montgomery, Clun and Ludlow. The medieval county town of Shrewsbury and the festival town of Ludlow are both around a 30-minute drive away. A little further afield lies the historic town of Ironbridge, famous for its iconic bridge and the fascinating Ironbridge Gorge Museums, including Blists Hill Victorian Town.

Just across the road there is an excellent, well-stocked village shop – Wentnor Stores.

How to Get to The Green Caravan Park

Please Do NOT Approach Over the Long Mynd!

We strongly advise not approaching The Green via the Long Mynd from Church Stretton.

While scenic, this route is narrow, steep and winding with few passing places. It is particularly unsuitable for caravans, motorhomes, campervans or vehicles towing trailers – but can also be challenging for standard vehicles.

Please choose one of the recommended routes below instead, and look out for the brown road signs that read ‘The Green’.

From the North / Shrewsbury

We recommend:
• Take the B4386
• Turn off the A5
or
• Travel along Longden Road from Shrewsbury
• Pass through Hook-a-Gate and Longden

From the North / Oswestry

We recommend:
Approach The Green from Welshpool and the A483 and then the A490
This avoids the steeper narrower roads of the Stiperstones.

This is the most straightforward and caravan-friendly approach from the north west.

From the South

We recommend:
• Travel along the A49
• Turn off just after Craven Arms on to the A489
• Follow brown campsite signs via Norbury.

This route avoids the steep hill crossing and is far more suitable for larger vehicles and those towing. If you experience any difficulty or are unsure about your route, please give us a ring — we’re always happy to guide you in. We’d much rather help you arrive safely and stress-free than see you tackle the wrong hill!

what should i do on arrival?

All visitors must report to reception for check in, for up to date site information and directions to your pitch. If no one is available please use the number provided at reception.

Is there a wild or natural area on site?

Yes. At the far end of the Rally Meadow you’ll find our unmanaged wild area – nature at its best. It’s home to a variety of plant and animal life and crowned by a well-established oak tree at the top of the site. It’s a peaceful space to explore and enjoy.

Is there a shop nearby?

Yes — there is an excellent, well-stocked village shop, Wentnor Stores, just over the road.

Are there pubs within walking distance?

Yes — and they’re fantastic.
The Inn on the Green – A family pub located alongside the site. Sunday lunch comes highly recommended and booking is recommended –  01588 650 105
The Crown Inn – Just up the hill. Dog-friendly and also offers Sunday lunches (booking also advisable) –  01588 500 188

Campfires are permitted, but only in raised fire bowls. Fires may be restricted in dry periods, high winds or local fire alerts. Please check with staff on-site before proceeding to start any fire. Approved fuels include kiln dried logs or charcoal.

We ask that all guests remain respectful of other campers when lighting and managing fires near others. A small selection of stone bases are available at reception to protect the ground beneath any fire.

Are BBQS allowed?

BBQs are permitted but we ask guests to use raised BBQs or purpose built grills only – no fires or disposable BBQs directly on the ground.
